We offer training in the
The benefit of training within Porter Group is our apprentices get experience across a large variety of machinery models and brands – one day you could be working with a Hyundai excavator and the next you could be working with a Sandvik crusher. To get this kind of experience at one workshop is very rare and gives our apprentices options when they qualify.
Our apprentices spend time learning the mechanics of both new and used equipment with Porter Mechanical, and the maintenance and servicing of our hire equipment with Porter Hire. In our Hamilton branch our apprentices also have the opportunity to work with Porter Haulage where they can absorb the mechanics of transport trucks and learn all the ins and outs of heavy haulage.
We have a reliable support network for our apprentices to help them through their training. We assign each apprentice to a mechanic who guides them through their practical training across the workshops. We have a weekly Q&A discussion in our training room where the theory requirement of the course can also be completed. Monthly 1 on 1 reviews are an important part of our program to keep our apprentices on track and checking in with any needs they might have.
Each year we proudly announce a performance based ‘Apprentice of the Year’ award. The winner is awarded $2,000 and trophy.
The ultimate aim for is to get each apprentice out into the field service environment, travelling nationwide.
